A native of Barcelona, Albert Gumí´s diverse interests cut across a wide cross-section of the music world, encompassing activities as diverse as playing historical clarinets and performing Klezmer music. His love of the low clarinets, the basset horn in particular, has been his specialty ever since he began performing professionally in the 1970’s.
His early music activities include performing and recording with “Le Concert des Nations” (Jordi Savall), “Nachtmusique” (Eric Hoeprich), “Europa Galante” (Fabio Biondi)... as well as touring and recording with the Stadler Trio.
In the Barcelona music scene he plays regularly with Orchestra of the Liceu, Orchestra of the Lliure Theater, Orchestra National of Andorra as well as the Chamber Orchestra of the Palau de la Musica.
His interest and experience as a chamber music specialist have led to the formation of several chamber music ensembles such as Trio Werther and the Barcelona Clarinet Quartet. Their numerous recordings have had excellent reviews. He is also active in many of the educational activities of the “la Caixa” Foundation, such as "Sons en el temps", “Family Concerts” and “Improvisation Workshops”. He is also the conductor of several youth orchestras.
He teaches at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, ESMUC.
